Coating Application UniqueCoat Technologies
provides in-house and
on-site application of
thermal spray coatings of
metallic alloys and cemented
carbides. Many of such
applications are considered
unique, since they are
available only with
Activated Combustion HVAF
technology.
Hard Chrome Alternative
Coatings with Optical Mirror
Finishing
 Coatings of the most popular
Tungsten Carbide-based
compositions are applied
onto roll surface and superfinished to roughness
better than Ra 0.3
micro-inch. Such surface
quality became possible due
to superior density of
AC-HVAF coatings and absence
of brittle phases, usually
formed due to oxidation and
thermal deterioration of
carbides in other thermal
spray processes.
AC-HVAF WC-based coatings
are noticeably harder than
Hard Chrome, exhibit better
toughness and can be applied
to practically any
thickness, providing
armor-like performance
during service. Coating
quality consistency is a
strong characteristic of
AC-HVAF technology.

High-Temperature Corrosion
Resistant Coatings for
Boiler Waterwall Panels
 AC-HVAF coatings of
nickel-based superalloys and
hardened stainless steel
reveal excellent resistance
to gaseous and salt-ash
corrosion in pulverized
coal, black liquor recovery
and waste-to-energy boilers.
Contrary to other coatings,
AC-HVAF sprayed materials
perform similar to fused
alloys. Such phenomenal
performance is a result of
extremely low oxygen content
in AC-HVAF coatings, their
initially high density, bond
strength and even quality
distribution. During service
in boiler, coatings undergo
intensive sintering,
transforming sprayed
structure into fused-like. Panel spray applications are
fully automated.

Erosion Resistant Coatings
for Complex-Shape Impellers
 Complex-shape impellers,
such as coal impellers in
boiler burners, high-speed
dust impellers in
cigarette-making machines,
etc., are successfully
sprayed with AC-HVAF
WC-based coatings. Lifetime
of coated impellers exceeds
the one for non-coated by
several folds. The
technology becomes possible
due to jet narrow size
(target spot 8-10 mm) and
absence of side effects in
AC-HVAF process, associated
with deposition of reflected
particles, spray dust
collection, overspray onto
adjacent surfaces.
Thick Coatings
 AC-HVAF coatings of metallic
alloys and cemented carbides
are sprayed to thickness
0.040-0.500 inch (2.0-12.5
mm) for wear plates,
drilling housing, to repair
casting defects or for
dimensional restoration of
parts made of costly
superalloys.
The specifics of coating
formation during solid
particle impact minimize
residual stresses in AC-HVAF
coatings and provide their
superior crack resistance.
As a result, the technology
practically has no
restrictions on coating
thickness.
Small Target Parts
 Hardface metallic coatings
are efficiently applied onto
small-size work pieces, such
as 1/8” (3 mm) diameter
pins, 1/4" (6 mm) wide
sealing rings, etc. With the
SB500-SF nozzle assembly,
AC-HVAF gun generates spray
particle jet as narrow as
4-5 mm, dramatically
improving the process target
efficiency.
